Our Future is in Our Hands

France's first Ecosystem Restoration Camp will start accepting volunteers in Spring | Global Garland

The environment is critical to the survival of life on Earth. However, there are several challenges that are causing harm to life and the earth's ecosystem. It affects not only the environment, but everyone who lives on the earth. Furthermore, pollution, global warming, greenhouse gas, and a variety of other factors are major contributors.

Economic restoration is a means of mending our strained relationship with the natural world. The procedure aids in the restoration of degraded ecosystems to their pre-degraded state, as well as the preservation of ecosystems. Ecological restoration has the potential to improve air quality, halt desertification, limit biodiversity loss, improve urban settings, and maybe improve human livelihoods and interactions with nature.

Environmental degradation has been one of the planet's biggest issues for three decades, but now, as the globe grapples with the COVID-19 crisis, the need to speed up the restoration movement has never been more pressing. With the destruction of ecosystems, carbon sinks such as forests and grasslands are becoming increasingly scarce. And at this point in history, we can't afford to let it happen. Human activities degrade the environment on a continual basis, resulting in the earth's survival status degrading.

Promoting environmental awareness is a simple way to become an environmental steward and help our children have a brighter future. The reasons why restoring nature is important are healthy soils sustain life on Earth, our relationship with nature is failing, indigenous cultures and knowledge is being lost and human health is dependent on ecosystem health. Healthy ecosystems are essential for people, animals, and plants. Without their services and resources, our daily lives and indulgences would be impossible.

Here are some ways in order to restore the ecosystem:

  • Repairing and replanting wetlands, creek beds, forestland, and other habitats

  •  Eradicating invasive species

  • Replacing turf grass with native species

  • Planting rain gardens to absorb rainwater running off roofs or asphalt

  • Monitoring pond and lake habitats and preparing reports on findings to government authorities

  • Erosion control

  • Removal of non-native species and weeds

  • The reintroduction of native species

  •  Reforestation

  •  Daylighting streams

  • Revegetation of disturbed areas

  • Habitat and range improvement for targeted species

We mistreat the land because we see it as a personal property. We may begin to use land with love and respect if we consider it as a community to which we belong. Restoration helps us to enhance our relationship with the ecosystems on which we rely, as well as becoming an active member of the communities that shape our region's natural environment.
